Pain in the neck? This Exercise Will Help

Technology is incredible. Our phones, computers and tablets allow us to buy anything with the click of a button, allow us to share and access information, and communicate with people all over the world in real time. (You can even do a personal training session with me no matter where you are. Now that’s something!)

As convenient as these machines make our lives, they are taking their toll on our bodies. Sitting in front of a computer, hunched over your phone, slouching through the day, have left many humans with the default posture of a candy cane. (I’m no exception— my time working in front of a computer has caused me tremendous pain in the past. For more on that:  I Couldn't Stand Up)

Bad posture contributes to so many common ailments: neck pain, f-ed up shoulders and back pain. But there is a way to correct the damage.

Try this exercise to ease your pain and correct your posture:

Iso-Prone Cobra

Iso-Prone Cobra

- 8-10 reps with 3-count hold
- Facedown, palms facing the floor.
- Pull your shoulder blades together and hold.
- From there, lift your sternum off the floor and tuck your chin to your sternum. (Imagine trying to look at your bellybutton.)
- Hold this position for a 3-count and then release.
